Urban Insertion
The transformation of the urban fabric through new inserts that replace other buildings or parts of the existing urban sequence, inserts that locate themselves within voids or that transform or rehabilitate the existing can become an interesting object of observation of the current architectural scene; these observations address research and experimentations the architectural product, on the nature and use of materials and on the aim of creating new relationships that attain continuity with the existing urban context.
One would wonder, what are the destabilizations that are giving shape to our contemporary cities as a result of the mutated environmental and social conditions, in terms of form, necessity to introduce new materials and technologies or in terms of the ambition to transform the emerging needs into stylistic and innovative approaches.

Energy efficiency–a new aesthetic

Energy efficiency, no exceptions.
Since the 80's the concept of energy efficiency has been much applied, and together with sustainability we notice more and more its prominence in architectural debates. As Brenda and Robert Vale pointed out in 1991,  “it became impossible to open a newspaper or turn on the television set without being reminded of global warming, pollution, rainforest destruction, acid rain or the growing hole in the ozone layer”. Moreover, a more conscious idea of sustainability raised new questions about the relationship between buildings and energy. This new awareness casts new doubts on a host of considerations surrounding the building industry and thus surrounding architecture. In fact, not only the buildings themselves but also the components and materials used in their construction are now considered a part of a global system of world energy consumption. 
The construction domain is among the economic sectors with the largest material flows and sees extremely high energy consumption resulting from manufacturing processes, transportation, and deconstruction of building components and structures. Today, besides efficient utilization of solar energy and research into renewable resources, it is more and more clear that the energy efficiency of buildings is crucial for every house of the future. High functionality and quality of materials and spaces, minimized consumption of energy and resources, use of regional building materials made of renewable resources, testing of long-term functionality, easy separation of building materials during deconstruction, and plans for recycling and reuse (the end of life concept) are taking their place among the normal set of tools of every architect.
